Toffee Squares

These are a great bar dessert treat to make, and use the same ingredients as a chocolate chip cookie! You can use a smaller pan to make them a bit thicker, which results in a chewier bar, versus the crispier thin bar. The nuts are also optional; I prefer mine without. Next time I make these, I’m going to try them with some sea salt sprinkled on top!

  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 12 Ounce Bag Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Cup Chopped Walnuts (optional)
  1. Preheat your oven to 350F
  2. Cream butter and brown sugar, then add egg yolk and vanilla; Mixture should be light and white
  3. Add flour and salt; mix thoroughly
  4. Press mixture into 10×15 pan (can be smaller for a thicker, chewier bar)
  5. Bake 15 minutes, or until lightly browned
  6. Remove from oven and use a fork to press down the baked dough
  7. Bake again 5-8 minutes
  8. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips across the dough
  9. Put back in oven and let chips melt; approximately 3-5 minutes (chips will look shiny)
  10. Remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over the dough
  11. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top
  12. Let stand about 5 minutes then score into bars while still warm
  13. Chill to harden chocolate
